We remember the sacrifices of our fellow family members:
WW-I
Harry Stanley Willis, b:1889 d: Oct 26, 1917 58th battalion Canadian Infantry. Died in second battle of Passchendaele Belgium first stage. This was my grandmother's[Hazel Hillary Purves nee Willis] brother. Great uncle to me.

William G. Turnbull Willis, b: Jun 19, 1883 d: Oct 30, 1917. Died in second battle of Passchendaele Belgium second stage. This was my grandmother's[Hazel Hillary Purves nee Willis] father's[Mark Willis] brother's son. 1st cousin to my grandmother, I think that would make it 3rd cousin to me.

"Immediately the men of the 28th Battalion experienced difficulty. Mud impeded their attempts to move forward. Much of the terrain was muddy up to the knees and in some places up to the waist. This slowed their advance significantly, increasing the time span between artillery barrage and infantry attack. As a result, the 28th Battalion received the brunt of German fire and suffered heavy casualties."

Stanley Willis, b: 1917 died in battle in WW-II, found no other details. This was my grandmother's[Hazel Hillary Purves nee Willis] father's[Mark Willis] brother's son's son. 2nd cousin to my grandmother, I think that would make it 4th cousin to me.
I am truely horrified at what they must have experienced. We will never forget.
